The cover of Vogue Netherlands May 2013 was photographed in Curacao.

Impressive!

This weekend is a long weekend for us! We’re off until Tuesday the 1st of May. That’s what’s uppp!!

There’s so much to do in the Dutch Caribbean this weekend!

  • Queens day! Many (former) Dutch colonies celebrate Queen’s day. Besides Amsterdam, Curacao is THE place to be on queen’s day. There will be orange everywhere and in all the wrong places. I have some DIY’s planned for Queen’s day. So stay tuned for that.
  • It’s carnival in St. Martin! I’m talking J’ouvert Moning, Carnival city, Soca… the works!
  • Bonaire will have their infamous Dia di Rincon (Day of Rincon). Celebrating their culture and traditions

Let the longg weekend begin!

Kuenta i Tambu (K i T)… Curacao’s own taking it to a whole new level! Listen to the revolutionary sounds of Tambu (traditional slavery music) and House beats. As the song says: Let’s celebrate LIFE!

Le sis is still here… As promised in the last post, yet another emami dress look. Last time she wore it as a dress, this time around as pants. Gotta love it!! I think I will have to confiscate this brilliant piece of cloth!!

Carnival DIY

In Curacao everyone wants to dress up for carnival… Whenever there is a jump in (a pre carnival party) and sometimes even during the parade everyone attending that event has to wear the same plain (oversized) t shirt… Boring right? Yeah, I thought so too

That’s why I organized a small DIY (Do It Yourself) Pre Carnival evening… We had so much fun! What was supposed to be a 2-hour evening got prolonged into a 5-hour craft evening. And guess what?! Some of the ladies wore their DIY’s during Carnival!! #ohsoproud

Carnival 2012

Hello lovelies! It’s Carnival in the (Dutch) Caribbean. This year I participated in the parade for the first time. Loved ones by my side, great vibe, wonderful colors, smiles all around… *sigh*. We get to do it all over again on Tuesday evening!

This is how we do it… ENJOY! Feliz Karnaval!!

My sister is on the island!! Siblings are a true blessing I tell you. No matter how near or far, our bond is just unbreakable. I can’t help but show her off.

She introduced me to the emami dress… A dress/skirt/pant you can wear in so many ways. Watch her work one emami look… (more to come soon!)

Islanders made this happen!

Dia di bandera

Today, July 2nd, is Day of the Flag in Curacao (where I was raised and currently live). This year Curacao is celebrating its first Flag day as an independent country! blue and yellow everywhere! Felis dia di Bandera!

An international reader asked me a while ago to incorporate more of the island into my posts. So, I went to the city centre to capture the feel of Curacao…
